Arturo Fuente - Don Carlos Belicoso NT

This was the original Arturo Fuente cigar that I fell in love with. I chose it completely by name alone, "Don Carlos" -- maybe I've watched too many episodes of Breaking Bad, but I get the impression that you don't want to mess with Don Carlos, nor have his cigar be anything less than perfect.

I'm glad to say that this is one where the book cover matched the contents. This is smooooth, extra o's intentional.

This one too had some burn problems I tried touching up a little, but it then developed a big split that ran all the way up to the band. It smoked fine, and it's so smooth this isn't a deal breaker - but something needs to be considered here, this was a well made cigar stored in what I thought was the right fashion.

It's been in my tupperdor at consistent humidity for well over two weeks. I looked into it and I think keeping them at 69 rh might be a bit high, and I am going to start 'dry boxing' before smoking these, anything I'm planning on taking a closer look at I'll store in an empty cigar box (unhumidified) overnight. I suppose experimenting with the perfect amount of box-time is in order...

Arturo Fuente - Rothschild MD

This one burned great, a tight little sausage that was a healthy hour long. Not that I would really know what it is, but it's what I would consider the "classic Arturo Fuente" taste. I had already identified this as one that I like so I have a few more waiting for later. Interesting of note - Dr. Pepper was my beverage and tended to leave the next puff significantly better tasting. Not only to have a fresh mouth, but it got me thinking how the smoke lingers on your taste buds - and there is probably a great combination. Well .. the universe has aligned in such a way so as Dr. P and Arturo F do a magical little pirouette across my taste buds. God damnit - I guess I'm finally a pepper too. Don't ask me to describe the taste, I'm not that good. Describe a color without using the color. Arturo Fuente - 858 Double Chateau NT

I'm not sure entirely sure what this one is called, I'll have to guess 858 Double Chateau Natural (6.7"x47) by size? This gets me thinking about what a great effect vitola has on the flavor of a cigar. I'm thinking about it like wrapping a burrito; a chubby burrito tortilla barely stretches around, a thin burrito might have multiple layers of tortilla wrapping. Not only will there be more wrapper and binder in a section, but with whatever filler there is being smaller - more of your flavor is dependent on these leaves. Maybe this explains why I enjoy a thicker vitola flavor more. This started out kind of on the unpleasant side and then settled in for a nice "normal" Fuente. Longer sizes also annoy me for a variety of reasons, they only fit vertically in my trays - but mainly longer cigars tend to develop a crack or a problem or burn problem. Arturo Fuente - Rosado Sun Grown R56

Now that I've had a few, I can say that this cigar is hands down my favorite cigar for taste and vitola (so far). Every time it hits my taste buds just right. I had this one in a dry box just overnight. I think my target is going to be 24-48 hours in advance I'll put them in the box, the burn was clean through the whole cigar and no need to touch up. As far as "tasting better" from the process I couldn't really say because this one is just lip smacking delicious to begin with. I wish I could adequately describe the flavor actually. I took a look at a few cigar muckity-muck reviews that talked about chocolate and nuttiness and sweetness. I just don't think that's what I tasted ... I need to try again maybe now that I've read.
