Well ... It's hard not to measure a cigar against such a harsh initial assessment, and I did find myself measuring the differences as 'unpleasant'. The burning smell was not too bad, it smoked very cleanly, the flavor started nice and I'm going to throw out "almond", but it immediately turned ashey pepper on the sides of the tongue. It's like going over a waterfall - wow that's pretty delic.......eww yuck. I only stuck it out for a third of the stick before letting is go. I can't imagine aging helping this one - the flavor just turns blech ... but do I wonder if the tubed one will be better.
... and it was. I mean it wasn't crazy good or anything, but it wasn't unpleasant in the way the cheapie was. This can't just be a psychological thing. Look at the difference in construction too ...
